Course objectives

The course focuses on the contemporary sociological theory and social research of childhood. It provide to students deep understanding of selected themes from the point of view of social constructivism. Students will critically learn also perspectives of other important paradigms of the theory of childhood. The first part of the course (9 weeks) is based on thematically structured reading and classroom discussions of the texts. Particular lectures deal with various methodological approaches in the research of childhood. During the second part (3-4 weeks) the students should at the workshop discuss their project of the final paper (it should be small empirical analysis or theoretical essay written on the given themes and based on the listed literature). The conditions to get the credits: The seminar paper (20 points), the final paper (60 points), final examination in the form of the classroom essay based on the mandatory literature (20 points). In order to get a credit it is needed to get at least 60 from possible 100 points.
