Cíle předmětu
This course serves as an introduction to gender studies. We want to introduce international students to the topic of gender and sexuality in contemporary European societies while focusing on the region of East Central Europe and highlighting socio-historical developments. The course covers social institutions and areas such as: labor market, education, media, family, justice. The course increases awareness of the multiple ways that sex and gender interact with race, class, nationality and other social identities. Students are expected to do the assigned readings beforehand and actively participate in class discussions.
Výstupy z učení
After completing the course, a student will be able to understand basic sociological conceptualizations of gender structure of society and apply sociological concepts to practical problems.

Metody hodnocení
Grading is based on the results of the final written test consisting of multiple-choice questions. Students who wish so can gain up to 30 additional points for a short review on a topic relevant for this course. While this task is voluntary, consulting with the instructor prior to writing and submitting this review is mandatory.
