Knowledge of sociological research methods and methods of sociological data analysis corresponding to the undergraduate (BA) sociology program at the Faculty of social studies, Masaryk University and the State exam in sociology therein. Knowledge of STATA software is a plus. The following summarizes expected knowledge of statistics and students are requested to study these chapters before the semestr begins. Treiman (2008), ch. 1-4; Agresti, Finlay (1997), ch. 1-8

The course develops skills to use quantitative data analysis in the context of real reaserch - to prepare, run and interpret analyses resulting fromtheoretically driven research questions.
Learning outcomes
students can apply selected statistical methods in the context of real sociological research
students can assess the nature of the research question, can evaluate alternative available methods and choose the most appropriate one
students can set data up for analysis
students can programme STATA to conduct the analysis
