Course objectives
The course introduces students to basic approaches to the study of inequalities in sociology. In particular, the focus will be on social and cultural inequalities and qualitative approaches to their measurement. Class inequality will be studied in conjunction with the categories of gender, ethnicity and age. Using examples of concrete empirical material (research, theory, fiction, film, documentary, personal observation), students will learn to recognize and name the different dimensions and nuances of social inequalities. The aim of the course is to name and understand inequalities in everyday situations, applying sociological imagination to their interpretation.
