Course objectives
Philosophical and academic bases of the course focus the drug problem as a phenomenon reaching beyond the borders of just one field of knowledge. It is the result of the theory, which presents the drug problem or drug addiction as a bio-psycho-social phenomenon, and from the multispecialty character of applied interventions originating thereof. The course critically examines the offer of current services and particular interventions in a broader context, namely from the perspective of not only medical treatment, but also historical, cultural, economic and of course political context. The next ambition of the course is to introduce and critically examine theories and models of drug use and follow-up options, eventually limits of offered services as answers to these theories and models. Theoretical models of work with drug users in the context of the latest knowledge will be introduced to students and at the same time, the students will participate in practising the needed skills.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- understand the drug problems from multidisciplinary perspectives
- apply different fields of knowledge in their analysis and understanding of the drug use as a bio-psycho-social phenomenon
- critically examine the offer of current services and particular interventions in a broader context
- use the theoretical knowledge as a grounding for developing practical skills to work with drug users.
