Prerequisites
CONSENT OF THE GUARANTOR The course can only be taken by students who have arranged a research collaboration with one of the lecturers of the Department of Social Policy and Social Work. Subsequently, the student will prepare a project in which he/she presents the intention of the research activities and the consent of the teacher with whom the student will collaborate in the realization of his/her project. The student will submit this project to the course supervisor and, with the supervisor's approval, may enroll in the course.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The course allows students in the Master's program to engage in research projects taught by the Department of Social Work and Social Policy. If the selected lecturer is not currently carrying out a project, he/she can agree with the student on the creation of their mutual research project (e.g. in connection with the creation of the student's thesis/dissertation). This project aims to broaden the competencies for the design, implementation, and dissemination of social science research. An integral goal is also the development of individual and team cooperation and communication within applied social research.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
- apply knowledge of scientific research methodology in practice;
- participate in the preparation and implementation of an empirical investigation through data collection;
- participate in the analysis and interpretation of data;
- actively participate in the dissemination phase (presentations at conferences, publication of scientific texts).
Syllabus
  • The course takes the form of a collaboration between the student and the teacher. All lecturers of the Department of Social Policy and Social Work are involved in the teaching. Each of the teachers offers their research topics in the course of teaching and consultation, or they approach students with an offer to participate in a specific research project. Before the beginning of the semester, the selected instructor will agree on a collaboration, which will be confirmed by the creation of a brief Research Seminar Project (length is 1 standard page). This includes the name of the instructor and student, the purpose of the student's involvement in the course, the expected assignments, and their timing. The expected length of the paper is 25-150 hours (depending on the number of credits).
