Course objectives
In the course students will learn about the methodology of pre-election research, they will learn how to interpret data from pre-election and opinion polls, they will know the difference between electoral potential and electoral model. They will be introduced to the principles of what constitutes quality research and what a research passport is.
Learning outcomes
Students will understand the data from pre-election surveys that enter the public space, they will understand the difference between electoral potential and electoral model, they will learn the basics of qualitative research, how to distinguish research that corresponds to qualitative research, what it means to passport public opinion research, the differences between different methodologies, during the seminar students will also be introduced to the most common mistakes made by the media when interpreting research.

  • 1. What is opinion polling, differences between pre-election polls? What are the values from pre-election surveys that enter the public space? 2. For what reason are pre-election and opinion polls conducted in the first place? What kind of information does it provide? 3. How can journalists and readers verify the quality of the research and the overall credibility of the research? 4. What influences the research results, what is the methodology, what are the data collection methods and what is behind the quality of the data? 5. How to interpret the results of pre-election research?

Teaching methods
Block seminar with compulsory attendance. Self-study and preparation from the listed literature is assumed.

Evaluation of the seminar work by the teacher. Correct interpretation of data.
