Course objectives
The main objectives of this course are to introduce students to the microscopic structure and organization of animal tissues and organs. Students will gain an understanding of the concept of life, the fundamental characteristics of living organisms, and the functions of tissues and organs within biological systems. Additionally, they will learn about the animal life cycle and reproductive processes.
Learning outcomes
Upon completing the course and passing the exam, students will be able to: 1) describe the microscopic structure of tissues within the four main tissue categories (epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue); 2) explain the structural organization of organs in animal organisms; 3) interpret the relationship between tissue structure and function; 4) understand the basic phylogenetic aspects in the development of organ systems;
Syllabus
  • The course comprises 12 lectures, each with a theoretical explanation and student active engagement. This structure includes essential concepts in embryology, general histology, and organology, with active student engagement in examining the microscopic structure of key animal tissues and organs. Course outline: Embryology: basics of tissue and organ development; General Histology: study of the four main tissue types (epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous), their structure, characteristics, origins, and functions; Organology: study of organ systems (blood and lymphatic system, respiratory system, excretory system, gastrointestinal tract, nervous and endocrine system, reproductive system, integumentary system; This course design enables students to link theoretical knowledge with understanding of tissue and organ structure across biological systems.
Teaching methods
Bookwork; lectures based on theoretical explanation, and active student engagement; home preparation;
Assessment methods
Passing the final test is required. The test consists of 60 questions covering the entire content of the lectures. For each correct answer, students will earn one point. Active student engagement throughout the course can contribute up to 5 additional points to the final test score. To pass the course, at least 37 points are required.
Language of instruction
English
