Course objectives
Phyllum Chordata, characteristics, relationships, ancestry and evolution. Subphyllum Urochordata, tunicate larvae, adult Ascidiacea, Thaliacea and Copelata. Subphyllum Cephalochordata, morphology, ontogeny and ecology. Subphyllum Vertebrata, characteristics and system. Vertebrate anatomy, ecology, behaviour and phylogeny. Jawless vertebrates, Agnatha, fossils and living Cyclostomata. Vertebrates with jaws, Gnathostomata, characteristics and system. Fossil fish-like gnathostomes and living Chondrichthyes. Class Osteichthyes, morphology, ecology, behaviour and system. Class Amphibia, morphology, ecology, behaviour and system. Class Reptilia, morphology, ecology, behaviour and system. Class Aves, morphology, ecology, behaviour and system. Class Mammalia, morphology, ecology, behaviour and system.

New discoveries of cambrian cephalochordates. - Subphyllum Vertebrata, characteristics, higher taxa, comparative anatomy, ecology, behaviour, vertebrate phylogeny. - Jawless vertebrates, Agnatha, fossils and living Cyclostomata. - Vertebrates with jaws, Gnathostomata, characteristics and higher taxa. Alternative classifications: Pisces and Tetrapoda, Anamnia and Amniota. Cladistic approach. - Primarily aquatic fossil gnathostomes and living Chondrichthyes. - Class Osteichthyes, morphology, ecology, behaviour and system. - Class Amphibia, morphology, ecology, behaviour and system. - Class Reptilia, morphology, ecology, behaviour and system. - Class Aves, morphology, ecology, behaviour, system, domestic birds. - Class Mammalia, morphology, ecology, behaviour, system, domestic and laboratory mammals, human ancestry.
