Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to: - show fundamental physiology laboratory skills. - demonstrate knowledge of laboratory work on living organisms including data collecting and their evaluation - formulate relevant conclusions - discuss physiological reasons of respective processes

Syllabus
  • 1. Proteins. Determination of total proteins content in mammalian serum and insect haemolymph. 2. Physiology of muscle contraction I. - skeletal muscle. 3. Physiology of muscle contraction II. - cardiac muscle. 4. Electrocardiography - electric activity of human heart. 5. Metabolism. Determination of oxygen consumption on human and insect. 6. Ventilation. Determination of physiological parameters and volumes of human ventilation. 7. Blood glucose. Regulation and glucose curve in mammals. 8. Vasomotor responses and blood pressure. Plethysmography. 9. Blood elements. Determination of blood human picture. 10. Blood groups. Determination of human blood groups. 11. Reflexes. Determination of reaction time by electromyogram. Lia detector. 12. Senses. Human visual field. Spectral sensitivity of human hearing.

Teaching methods
Theoretic introduction. Individually or demonstratively performed experiments. Students submit records from lessons with discussion of results. Students have to pass tests of basic, theoretical knowledge.
Assessment methods
Attendance is compulsory; knowledge of the students is periodically tested during the practical classes. Testing is written consisting of 8-12 questions (multichoice tests). At least 50% knowledge is mandatory. Students submit records from lessons with discussion of results.
