- Course objectives
- The subject gives an overview of
clinically significant microscopic fungi and fungi occurring in the environment, such as food and feed, on the walls of flats or in the air;
etiology and pathogenesis of fungal diseases;
major mycotoxin producers and diseases caused by them;
diagnostic methods used in clinical mycology. - Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to:
- name microscopic fungi of medical importance;
- apply specific methods for the isolation and cultivation of clinically significant microscopic fungi;
- evaluate the morphological features of individual taxonomic groups important for species identification;
- explain effects of mycotoxins on human health. - Syllabus
- Current systematic arrangement of microscopic medically important fungi; methods of isolation, cultivation and determination of micromycetes; dermatophytes, clinically significant yeast, Aspergillus, Mucorales, agents of hyalhyphomycosis and feohyphomycosis; fungal infection – definitions and therapy; antifungal drugs; mycotoxins of microscopic fungi and their significance.
