Course objectives
Aim of the course is explanation of common regularities of growth, control and inheritance of growth in humans in ontogeny. Principles of skeletal growth and common theory of growth. At the end of the course students will understand the dynamics of growth and synchronisation of developemntal proceses.
Syllabus
  • 1)growth and its determinants, interindividual and intersexual variability of growth
  • 2)primáry aspects of growth – ossification and growth of bones of postcranial skeleton, skeletal morphogenesis
  • 3)common theory of growth, Utah paradigma
  • 4)hormonal regulation of growth
  • 5)genetic conditionality of growth, heritability, genetic growth potential, constitutional variants of growth, predictive procedures
  • 6)Evaluation and interpretation of auxological data, growth curves – types, construction, description, growth spurts
  • 7)dynamics of growth, alometric and izometric growth, growth of somatic parameters, changes in body proporcionality
  • 8)biological age, korelates of skeletal age
  • 9)ontogenetic development of child, synchronisation of developemntal proceses
  • 10)development of weight parameters, specifics of evaluation of these parameters in childhood, developmental corelates of weight and degrees of adiposity, adiposity reboud, prevalence of overweight, obesity and low weight
  • 11)clinical applications of principles of auxology, standard – pathology, developental acceleration/retardation, adaptive growth
  • 12)methods of collection of data, processing and interpretation of auxological data – growth normatives, secular changes.
