Course objectives
The goal of this course is to train students in methods used in human assisted reproduction and research focused on mammalian germ cells and embryos.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should have practical knowledge of: - methods used in isolation of mammalian germ cells and embryos - techniques of in vitro manipulation of germ cells and embryos - methods used in evaluation of male germ cells - basic methods used for analysis of chromosomes in germ cells and embryos including chromosomal spreads, immunofluorescence, laser microdissection, in situ hybridization, comparative genomic hybridization, Q-PCR - methods of widefield and confocal microscopy used in gamete research - microscopy of fixed samples, live cell imaging, FRET, FRAP and basic method of image analysis

  • 1. Isolation of mammalian oocytes and embryos in vitro 2. Basics of microinjection and micromanipulation of oocytes 3. Methods of evaluation of male germ cells 4. Basics and advanced methods used for analysis of chromosomes of germ cells and embryos - chromosomal spreads, immunofluorescence, laser microdissection, in situ hybridization, comparative genomic hybridization, qPCR 5. Methods and techniques of widefield and confocal microscopy used in research focused on germ cells and embryos - microscopy of fixed specimen, live cell imaging microscopy, FRET, FRAP, image analysis
