Course objectives
An overview of environmental regulations of the Czech Republic covering nature and landscape conservation and enironmental protection is given and the processes of their application are introduced. The students get to know regulations regarding air pollution, waste management, the protection of water and forests, and nature conservation. The focus is on the Act 114/1992 Coll. on nature and landscape conservation. All regulations are presented in their present, valid versions.
The objectives of the course are:
1) to get a broad overview of legal regulations in the Czech Republic (in particular those of the highest level) regarding the protection of nature, landscape and the components of human environment;
2) to orient one-self in these regulations - get an idea of the approach taken, how the topic is structured, where to find specific enactments to partial issues;
3) to get an idea of how issues of nature conservation and environmental protection are being approached in practice from the legal point of view.
Learning outcomes
Having taken the course, the student should be able to:
- understand the procedural steps of state (national) authorities;
- explain the extent of legal regulations regarding individual parts of the environment (air, waste, water, forests, nature);
- distinguish between legal and illegal steps taken by legal entities in regard to the individual components of the environment;
- apply legal regulations to characteristic actions and procedures regarding individual components of the environment;
- prevent negative effects on the environments during his/her practical or management activities after graduation.

The course is given as a series of lectures. Credits are given based on the positive result of an oral exam at the end of the course (in case of an increase in the number of enrolled students this might change to a written exam).
