Course objectives
There are three thematic parts: 1-4 funfamentals of bionomy and evolution of parasitic arthropods, 5-7 adaptaion of arthropods to parasitism and its relationship to their hosts, 8-12 significance of arthropods like a vectors and pathogens.
Syllabus
  • 1. Bionomy, clasification and evolution of Parasitiformes and Acariformes. 2. Bionomy, characteristic and evolution of Phthiraptera and Heteroptera 3. Bionomy and basic characteristic of Diptera-Nematocera, hematophagous insects. 4. Bionomy and basic characteristic of Diptera-Brachycera, parasitoids. Siphonaptera - bionomy and basic characteristic. 5. Origin of hematophagy and strategy of hematophagous insects. Bionomy and basic adaptations for hematophagy. 6. Adaptation of tissue and intestinal parasites, parasite-host interface, regulation of parasite population, host immunity. 7. Parasite-host co-evolution, origin of specificity, methods of study of co-evolution 8. Internal environment of arthropods like environment for microorganims.( anatomy, physiology, specifity, development,pathogenity, parasite transmission) 9. Basic defense mechanisms of arthropods, susceptibilty and resistance. 10. Bionomy and ecology of vectors (epidemiology, zoonosis, tntropozoonosis, synantropy). 11. Population biology of vectors, its biological importance, models of parasite transmission, structure of vector population, population genetics, molecular taxonomy). 12.
