Course objectives
The course is intended for students who wish to learn about developing and producing food supplements and pharmaceuticals for human and veterinary use. Students will see the entire manufacturing process, from product development and evaluation through formulation into a suitable form, ensuring the required quality of the products, to the preparation of registration dossiers and product approval. During the field trips, students will visit four of the following workplaces: (i) Oncomed, a.s. in Brno, (ii) FAVEA, a.s. in Kopřivnice, (iii) BIOVETA, a.s. in Ivanovice na Hané, (iv) Institute for State Control of Veterinary Biologicals and Medicines in Brno, (v) Aumed, a.s. in Brno.
Learning outcomes
Graduates of the course will be able to describe how research and development of pharmaceuticals and dietary supplements is carried out and will be able to state the difference between them. They will be able to describe some technical aspects of pharmaceutical manufacturing. They will be able to explain the importance of quality control and quality assurance. They will be able to describe how medicinal products' efficacy, safety and quality are evaluated and monitored.
