Course objectives
The main objective of the course is to review the knowledge about sexual dimorphism, comparative research of sexual and erotic behavior patterns and manners (celibate, hetero-, homo-sexuality, pederasty, promiscuity, prostitution, transsexuality, transvestitism etc.), rituals (sexual mutilation etc.) and institutions (marriage, matrimony etc.). At the end of the course the students should be able to: decide whether and to what extent the complex of human sexuality is representing a platform on the base of which the whole culture can be described in its specific profiles and aspects which (at the first look) have no association with sexuality at all or the association is small; describe the main transcultural trends of sexuality in the problems of historic consequence of all world's societies from the prehistory till today; define the obvious and the specific in sexual and erotic behavior according to social status; age; sex and mainly ethnicity; religious or cultural pertinence; discuss the concepts of behavior and the respect for these notions in inter-twining and collisions of various cultures and ethnics in today's globalized world; especially the students should be able to analyze these concepts within the relationships of the Euro-American civilization to other civilizations and cultures.
