Syllabus
  • 1. Basic concepts. Hardware and software.

    2. Operating systems. Principles and comparison of common operating systems (DOS, Windows, UNIX).

    3. Text and data processing on Windows platform (Word, Excel, Access).

    4. Computer graphics, multimedia.

    5. Programming languages, HTML, XML.

    6. Computer networks, networking hardware, basic principles.

    7. Internet, its history and scheme, services (electronic mail, WWW). Commercial and academic networks. Connecting to the Internet (dial-up, leased line).

    8. Security and data protection in computers and in computer networks (applied cryptography, electronic signature).

    9. Scientific applications in computers/networks, online databases (WoS), electronic journals, libraries.

    10. History of information technologies, future. Origin and development of Masaryk University network, applications in MU network.

    11. Database software for museum documentation, collection cataloguing - Bach.
