Course objectives
The main goals of the subject are practicing topics discussed in course C1670 Bioanalytical chemistry: spectroscopic, chromatographic, electromigration, and physical methods of biochemical analysis.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, the students will be able to theoretically understand and practically apply the spectroscopic, chromatographic, electromigration, and physical methods of analysis in biochemistry. They will able to apply this knowledge in their scientific research, working on bachelor, master, and PhD theses and finally also during their following employment.
Syllabus
1) Protein analysis: - SDS gel electrophoresis + Western Blot - column chromatography: gel filtration + dialysis - spectroscopic protein quantification: UV (280 nm), BCA, Bradford - immunoassay 2) DNA analysis (genetic fingerprinting): DNA extraction, PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis 3) Lipid analysis: isolation of lipids from nutmeg, thin layer chromatography 4) Blood detection: Luminol reaction
