Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
This seminar will prepare the students of bachelor study programs (2nd year) related to biochemistry for realization of the bachelor thesis. Introduction to biochemical sources of information, preparation and presentation of research publications, research fields studied at the Department of Biochemistry and other research institutes providing bachelor thesis support.
Learning outcomes
After this course, the student will:
-have an information about research directions at Faculty of Science of Masaryk University and at collaborating institutions in the frame of which the bachelor projects/theses will be offered
-will have an information about information sources in biochemistry and life science in general
-will have an information on the structure and rules of preparation of bachelor thesis
Syllabus
  • 1. Department of Biochemistry - brief history, structure and research. Organization of work, administrative issues. 2. Information sources for biochemists available generally and specifically at MU. Source for and realization of reviews. Demonstrations - Web of Science, Chemical Abstracts, Science Direct, ACS, Springer Link. 3. Biochemical databases, basics of bioinformatics, visualization and studies of sequence and structure-related data. 4. Compilation of research publications (bachelor and other theses, contributions to scientific journals) - special and formal requirements, technical issues, experience. Preparation and realization of presentations. 5. Information about the research fields at the department provided by the academic staff, research projects and opportunities for students within diploma thesis. 6. Reports from realization of bachelor thesis within preparation for its defense.
