Course objectives
The course is focused on basics of XML technology, creation and processing of XML documents and electronic publishing. At the end of this course, students should be able to: understand principles of XML language; create and process XML documents.
Syllabus
  • Documents publishing and archiving: history and present. XML: advantages, current and future usage, syntax, tools
  • Formal specification of document structure and its validation I - DTD
  • Name spaces. XHTML: structure of web document, basic elements and attributes of XHTML
  • Visualization of XML documents using CSS technology
  • SVG: vector graphics in XML
  • Introduction to XPath
  • Introduction to XSLT
  • XSL FO - XML document formating for print output
  • Formal specification of document structure and its validation II - Relax NG
  • Formal specification of document structure and its validation III - XML Scheme
  • MathML - mathematics in XML, CML - chemistry in XML
  • Combination of XML formats
