Course objectives
Nomenclature of heterocyclic compounds. General methods of heterocyclic compounds synthesis, cyclizations (homo and heterocyclizations), cycloadditions and ring transformations. Nonaromatic heterocyclic compounds (with stress on small rings), their reactivity and the comparison with the reactivity of analogous noncyclic compounds with heteroatoms.Aromatic heterocycles. Five membered ring heterocycles with one heteroatom and their benzo derivatives. 1,3-Azoles and 1,2-azoles. At the end of this course students should be able to name various heterocyclic compounds, to think out a method of synthesis of the given heterocycle, to recognize a diference between reactivity of the heterocyclic system aromatic and nonaromatic. Special properties of five membered heterocycles with one and two heteroatoms are summarized.

  • 1. Nomenclature, Hantzsch - Widman method for fused heterocycles. 2. General methods for synthesis of heterocycles (homo and heterocyclizations).3. Cycloadditions and derivatization of the heterocyclic skeleton. 4. Nonaromatical heterocyclic compounds with special respect to mall rings.5. Aromatic heterocycles: Fivemembered heterocycles with one heteroatm, structure and influence of the heteroatom upon behaviour of the system. Pyrrol, basic methods of its preparation and behaviour against electrofiles, nucleophiles and radicals. 7. Furan, basic methods of its preparation and behaviour against electrofiles, nucleophiles and radicals. Most important derivatives and thei occuarence in the nature. 8. Pyrrrol dyes. 9. Indol, chemical structure and reactivity, derivatives, indigo. Isoindol and indolisin. 10. 1.3-Azoles, their representatives and structure.Basic methods of its preparation and behaviour against electrofiles, nucleophiles and radicals. Comparison of the chemical properties with corresponding heterocycles with one heteroatom. 1.2-Azoles, their structure and representatives. Basic methods for their preparation. Chemical properties.12., 13., 14. Inovation.
