At the end of the course students should be able to: understand and explain basic information about atomic nucleus, radioactive decay, absorption and detection of ionizing radiation, isotope effects; work with this information in biology and medicine.

  • 1. Basic information.
  • 2. Atomic nucleus.
  • 3. Types of radioactive decays, and kinetics of decay.
  • 4. Properties of ionizing radiation.
  • 5. Methods of detection of ionizing radiation.
  • 6. Biological effects of ionizing radiation.
  • 7. The use of radionuclides and ionizing radiation in biology and medicine.
