Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
This lecture provides some training with reference to the imagination and symmetry analysis of steric structures. However, the main objective will be to present some methods of investigation of structures, including configurations, which are important for future research work in organic chemistry. From early studies, the participants should be familiar with stereoisomers, their symmetry and their mutual relationships; concerning NMR, only basic information on proton and carbon shifts, coupling constants as well as simple coupling patterns is required. An attempt will be made to take into account the students knowledge of English language. Upon the lecture, written exercises will be distributed and discussed in the following week.
Syllabus
  • Types of chiral molecules Polarimetry Circular dichroism Stereochemically relevant X-ray diffraction Stereochemically relevant NMR (diastereotopic groups, diastereomers, enantiomers and additives; nuclear Overhauser effect; intramolecular processes and their consequences).
Language of instruction
English
