Prerequisites
The exercises are organized in CZECH language, they are an extension of the E5080 lectures (which are in English). Exercises are dedicated for the core students of the Environmental Health programme guaranteed by centre RECETOX. The actual schedule - dates/times - for the exercises are planned together with students during weeks 1-2 of the semester. Planning assures that any conflicts with other timetable
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.

Course objectives
The objective of the course is to teach students practical skills in ecotoxicity testing with selected model organisms, legislation context and interpretation of the results. Exercises are in CZECH language.
Learning outcomes
After the course student will be able:
- to use ecotoxicological databases
- plan and conduct selected basic model ecotoxicology assays
- interpret ecotoxicity data from experiments and databases
- implement ecotoxicity results within the risk assessment process
Syllabus
  • 1 - Practical aspects of the selected bioassays - experimental design and planning
  • 2 - Acute toxicity testing with aquatic invertebrates (D. magna), germination test on seeds, and root growth inhibition (S. alba)
  • 3 - Semetral project - risk assessment report based on the use of results for model compounds
  • 4 - Excursion to (eco)toxicological laboratories RECETOX and demonstration of advanced testing methods.
