Course objectives
The seminar provides tutorials on several advanced topics and solutions of problems extending the course Oscillations, waves, optics.
Syllabus
  • 1. anharmonic oscillations of a pendulum
  • 2. oscillations of simple molecules
  • 3. linear response theory
  • 4. wave packets in dispersing media
  • 5. spectral decomposition of light (prism, rainbow)
  • 6. light propagation in optically inhomogenenous media (mirages, light bending by a gravitational field)
  • 7. light propagation through multilayers, 1D photonic crystals
  • 8. Fraunhofer diffraction on 1D and 2D gratings
  • 9. Fresnel diffraction
  • 10. Fourier optics
