Course objectives
The course deals with the parts of solid state physics neglected in the basic course, mainly by surface physics
Syllabus
  • 1. Thermodynamical description of an interface sourface tension roughnening transition 2. Surface crystallography surface lattice reciprocal lattice types of the interfaces in solids nucleation and growth of thin layers surface relaxation and reconstruction 3. Scattering from surfaces kinematical theory of scattering from surfaces, LEED Inelastic surface scattering, EELS, chemical analysis of surfaces by scattering, RBS 4.
