Prerequisites
The knowledge of classical and quantum mechanics is assumed.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
At the end of this course, students obtain the knowledge about different types of particles in plasma, about their collisions and reactions. The students obtain also the knowledge of theoretical description of collisions and experimental methods of their study.
Learning outcomes
The student will be able: - to understand and describe the processes in plasma;
- to develop and solve the kinetic model of processes in plasma.
Syllabus
  • Fundamental terms and classification of atomic collisions. Elastic collisions, measuring methods of collision cross section. Diffusion and mobility, diffusion length. Charge exchange collision. Recombination of ions with electrons. Mechanism of electron-ion recombination. Experimental study of recombination processes. Recombination between positive and negative ions. The role of metastable particles in collision processes. Penning electron spectroscopy. Dissociation of molecules by electron impact. Atomic recombination in plasma. Experimental determination of atomic densities, actinometry. Creation and destruction of negative ions. Measuring of negative ions densities in plasma. Chemiionization, chemical reactions in plasma.
