Course objectives
The lectures are focused on basic isotope systems and their practical application in rock petrogenesis studies.
Syllabus
  • 1) Introduction to geochemistry of endogenic processes
  • Lecture: chemical elements, stable isotopes, radiogenic isotopes, Earth as a complex chemical system
  • Seminar: basic isotope systems, separation methods of individual elements and their measurement using mass spectrometers TRITON and NEPTUN
  • 2) Chemical differentiation of the Earth
  • Lecture: isotope geochemistry of mantle and crust
  • Seminar: crust–mantle differentiation
  • 3) Stable Li isotopes
  • Lecture: composition of major crust and mantle reservoirs, geochemical cycle of Li
  • Seminar: practical examples of Li isotopes application in rock petrogenesis studies
  • 4) Stable B isotopes
  • Lecture: composition of major crust and mantle reservoirs, geochemical cycle of B
  • Seminar: practical examples of B isotopes application in rock petrogenesis studies
  • 5) Radiogenic Sr isotopes
  • Lecture: composition of major crust and mantle reservoirs, geochemical cycle of Sr
  • Seminar: practical examples of Sr isotopes application in rock petrogenesis studies.
  • 6) Radiogenic Nd isotopes
