- Course objectives
- Learning outcomes of the course unit is to acquaint students with the basic methods of remediation and practical acquiring of knowledge on methods for deciding on the appropriate method of remediation.
- Learning outcomes
- Acquiring mechanisms of contamination and damage to environmental compartments. Acquisition of principles and methods of decontamination and remediation of soil and objects. Adoption of facilities and technical facilities for decontamination and remediation.
- Syllabus
- 1) Introduction to the problem. Contaminants of environmental media. 2) Basic methods of decontamination, remediation and cleaning, principles of source zones deconatmination. 3) Passive and active treatment technologies. 4) Physical methods - impermeable barriers, soil vapor extraction. 5) Hydraulic methods of remediation and their combination with other technologies. 6) Chemical methods (oxidation, reduction, permeable reactive barriers). 7) Biotechnology and microbial remediation. 8) Special features in projecting and managing of remediation. 9) The role of state administration and public institutions. Liability of legal and natural persons.
