Course objectives
Main objectives can be summarized as follows:; to understand the basic terms: elemental particles, binding energy, models of nucleus, half-life, activity, ... ; to use data about geochronology, radioactive decay and impression of ionising radiation to minerals ; students should be able to delineate the major differences between chemical and isotopic radioactive dating methods and dating due to radiating damage of minerals; to learn the knowledge about metamict processes of zircon and another minerals ;
Syllabus
  • 1. elemental particle, nuclear interaction ; 2. binding energy and potentional barrier, models of nucleus ; 3. causes of instability of nuclides, types of radioactive decay, reactions of nuclear ; 4. terms: parameter of transformation, activity, half-life ;
  • 5. dating due to time-change of activity of cosmogenic radionuclides ; 6. kinetics of accumulation of stability product of change, geochronology ; 7. stable radioactive balance ; 8. decay family, gamaspectroscopic assessment U and Th due to stable radioactive balance ; 9. chemical methods of dating ; 10. isotopic dating due to construction isochrones and dating due to radiation damage ;
  • 11. Oklo-Okélobondo: time-change isotopic composition natural U ; 12. effect on ionising radiation: radiolysis of water, type of crystal defect, radiothermoluminescence 13. effect on ionising radiation: metamict processes in zircon and other minerals ;
