Course objectives
Detailed view into plastic and brittle deformation of minerals and rocks. Focused to micro-scale. At the end of this course, students should be able to interpret main mechanisms of deformation of the rock specimen.
Syllabus
  • Mechanisms of ductile deformation.
  • Deformation microstructures.
  • Measurement of crystallographic preferred orientations.
  • Quantitative analysis of microstructures.
  • Kinematic indicators on faults.
  • Rheological strength profiles.
Assessment methods
Short courses and practical training. Work with real rocks and PC.
