Course objectives
Lectures on pedology familiarises students with basic pedological concepts, makes the aquaitance with basic physical and chemical characteristics of soils. The special attention is given to the problematics of pedogenetical processes which are responsible for the formation of individual soil types. The emphasis is put to the understanding of the soil as an open live system. The present soil classification and distribution of single soil types within the area of the Czech Republic as a result of substrate conditions, climatic conditions, etc., is the part of the subject. Studets try to both describe and classify the selected soil profile under the terms of practical part of lectures. At the end of this course, students should be able to: understand basic pedological terminology; explain mechanism of different types of pedogenetic processes; practical use of the soil classification system of the Czech Republic; basic description of soil profiles (including classification) and soil samples.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, students should be able to: understand basic pedological terminology; explain mechanism of different types of pedogenetic processes; practical use of the soil classification system of the Czech Republic; basic description of soil profiles (including classification) and soil samples.
