- Geology, Hydrogeology and Geochemistry (programme PřF, N-GE)
- Course objectives
- 1) An introduction to microtectonics, its importance for the analysis of strain history, an explaining of the basic terms (strain geometry, important variables, fabric symetry, rheology, deformation maps) 2) Mechanisms of deformation: cataclasis, fluid transfer, twinning, solid-state diffusion, disclocation creep, recovery, dynamic recrystallization, superplasticity, annealing. Main deformational regimes. 3) Methods of microfabric analysis - thin sections, SEM, TEM, fluid inclusions, preferred orientations - LPO, SPO, image analyses, experiments 4) Deformation of carbonates - mechanisms, the origin of foliations, LPO, analytical methods 5) Practical problems and their interpretations
