Course objectives

The course is devoted predominantly to those students of magisterial study of the program Geology who intend to graduate in a subject of paleontology.It follows the main goal to present the general and special questions of paleoecology and the methods of taphonomical research on the advanced university level.

• Paleoecology, its relations to ecology & Structure of paleoecology & Basic principles of paleoecology & Life habitats of organisms (recent, past) & Relations of organisms to their environments & Populations and paleopopuplations & Communities and paleocommunities & Ecosystems and paleoecosystems & Field methods of the paleoecological research & Laboratory methods of paleoecological research & Practical applications

Teaching methods

The course consists of theoretical lectures and practical excercises. Each student presents 1 selected paleoecological theme. Besides, the students solve paleoecological interpretations based on concrete samples.

Assessment methods

Ending of the course: Oral exam verifying general knowledge of theoretical palaeoecological topics, and ability of their practical application.
