Course objectives
The course is focused on complex summary of contemporary knowledge of biocorrosion. It analyses mechanism of material destruction (mainly building materials) caused by microorganisms, insects, higher organisms or animals. It gives integral overview of the building biology and its exploitation in civil engineering. It gives the practical examples of solutions of damages, caused by microorganisms.
Syllabus
  • 1) Biocorrosion. Symptomatology and diagnosis, ecological aspects of biocorrosion. 2) Microbes and environment - requirements of nutrient, humidity, temperature and pH of material 3) Microbes and environment - influence of O2, CO2, NH3 and SO2, influence of electromagnetic radiation 4) Biodeteriogenes of building material: sulfuric, nitrificant, de-nitrificant and silicate bacteria 5) Biodeteriogenes of building material: micromycets, cilia, mosses, lichens, higher plants, arthropods and vertebrates. 6) Diagnostic methods for presence of biodeteriegenes. 7) Biological degradation of structures and biocorrosion of building parts (floor and roof coverings, peripheral mantle and decorative stones) 8) Biological degradation of structures and biocorrosion of building parts (interior of buildings) 9) Inspection of biological degradation of structures (direct and indirect methods) 10) Biological methods of biocorrosion inspection 11) Examples of damages caused by microorganisms. 12) Protective precautions
