Osnova
  • A constant growth of production and a raising awareness of the risks of damaging the environment related to it, as well as new technologies and innovation have a strong impact on the commodity portfolio. Classical elements such as Pb, Zn and Fe are still required by the industry but others elements which have led a shadow existence so far more and more moved centre stage, e.g., In, Be, Ge, or Ga. This will cause changes in our activities in the downand upstream sector of raw material supply. Economic geologists are in need of directing their thoughts towards so-called high-tech metals or, in terms of supply and demand, high risk commodities, when it comes to exploration and exploitation. In the present course the main contenders or top-scores in the sequence of high-risk commodities are dealt with as to their mineralogy, geochemistry and economic geology: REE, Nb-Ta-Sc, Be, PGE, Li-Cs, In-Ge, Ga, and Sb. Data collection and modelling have to be adjusted to the changing economic situation, rendering it necessary for geologists to broadening their coverage beyond exploration and exploitation and extend it towards marketing and economics.
