Basic knowledge of biochemistry, coordination and physical chemistry (thermodynamics, kinetics)

The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
5-hour interdisciplinar lecture will be given by prof. Michael J. Hynes (National University of Ireland in Galway), who is expert in this field. The lecture is suitable for students all study programs of chemistry and biology. The lecture will take place on Tue 25.11 ( 8:30-12:30) at seminary room of Dean Office building (Kotlarska 2).
Syllabus
  • General overview of bonding in NO, comparison with CO. Binding modes – bent and linear modes. Activation parameters – use in mechanism elucidation with special emphasis on volume of activation as a diagnostic tool. Examples of ligand substitution reactions involving NO (e.g. reaction of NO with Cytochrome P450).
