Course objectives
After completing this course the student will be able to:
use specialized chemical vocabulary, recognize synonyms;
understand clearly structured authentic mathematical texts, deduce from the text;
identify specific information in a specialized text, form questions to the text;
briefly summarize a text in writing;
practise language functions in English: how to define, describe a process, explain cause and effect
prepare a presentation on mathematical topics using basic presentation techniques;
understand authentic specialized audio materials, understand a lecture, take notes;
discuss general and mathematical topics, give arguments;
apply acquired grammar skills in specialized contexts
Learning outcomes
After the completion of the course the student will be able to:
apply strategies for preparing a team presentation
analyze language components of a definition in science
explain direct and inverse proportionality
read simple mathematical symbols and expressions
prepare and present a poster about the future career development
write a formal email to a professor
deliver a presenatation and take part in a discussion

Teaching methods
Course of English for Special Purposes; specialized text analysis (main idea, questions, comprehension, summary), listening comprehension, video materials, conversation and discussion in pairs and in groups, presentations in plenary; applying grammar in new contexts; group writing; homework; blended learning (interactive materials, listening, dril in IS MU).
Assessment methods
Active work in the course, doing homework and 80% seminar attendance are compulsory. Each course is concluded with a credit test. The passing grade of the credit test is 60%. All semestral assignments must be completed.
