Prerequisites
A knowledge of the field Q_p of p-adic numbers and of the completion \Omega_p of its algebraic closure, which we studied last semester, can be useful. However, students not attending the seminar in the last semester could relatively easily learned the required knowledge.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.

Course objectives
In the last semester we read the first three chapters of the book "p-adic Numbers, p-adic Analysis, and Zeta-Functions" written by Neal Koblitz. In this semester we shall loosely follow up this direction. We shall study p-adic power series and define p-adic analogies of some classical functions (log, exp, \Gamma). The aim is to describe some applications, for example the famous Gross-Koblitz formula.
Syllabus
  • 1. p-adic power series;
  • 2. p-adic analogies of classical functions (log, exp, \Gamma);
  • 3. applications.
