Course objectives
Pedogeography. Position of pedogeography and pedology in the system of sciences. History of pedology, pedologic world schools. Soil definition. Weathering and origin of the mineral soil component. Soil as a dispersion system. Soil components. Selected soil characteristics - texture, structure, sorption properties, pH - value. Main pedogenetic processes. Soil profile, diagnostic horizons. Soil Units of the World (FAO 1970, 1990). Šály's soil classification of the Czech Republic.
Biogeography. Biogeography in physical geography. Differences between geographical, biological and biogeographical approach. Organism - population - geobiocenose - geobiom - biogeosphere. Ecological factors and conditions, autecology, synecology, demecology. Development of biogeosphere. Biogeography of the Czech Republic. Biogeography of the World.
