- Course objectives
- The approach to the Landscape is ecosystematic, with terrain identifications of landscape entities, analysis and interpretations, evaluation and proposals of landscape improvement.
Main objectives can be summarized as follows:
to widen students knowledge of the Geography necessary for Landscape studium;
to identify landscape structures;
to understand Landscape-Biota phenomenons;
to understand the principles of Ecological networks and rules of their proposals. - Learning outcomes
- The student after the passing this course inter alia should be able:
- to explain terms as Zonobiom, Orobiom, Geobiom and Biom, to know examples of them, and diferences among them;
- to explain the term "Landscape phenomenon", to name them and to characterize them;
- to characterize co-called Anemo-Orographical systems and hilltoping, including types of their localities;
- to explain terms as primary, secondary and tertiary landscape structures and how are connected in the Landscape;
- to choose adequate landscape metrics for a requested task, to characterize it and explain its advantages and weak aspects;
- to characterize Ecological Networks and Territorial Systems of Ecological Stability of Landscape and to explain their expected functions. - Syllabus
- 1. Landscape Sphere of the Earth, global space structure.
- 2. Natural landscapes of the Earth - zonobiomes, orobiomes, geobiomes.
- 3. Structure of the Landscape according to Forman, Godron (1986, 1993), typization of Landscapes according to extent of their elements.
- 4. Phenomenons in the Landscape (riverine, valleys, mountain-tops, sandstone rocks ....)
- 5. Anemo-orographical systems in mountains and Hilltoping in hilly lands.
- 6. Landscape metrics.
- 7. Primary, secondary and tertiary structure of the Landscape.
- 8. Theory of Systems and Geosystems.
- 9. Skeleton of Ecological Landscape stability, Ecological Networks.
- 10. Typology of landscapes - on European level (see Lőw, Míchal 2003), typology of landscapes of Czechia (Lőw et all 2006) and others.
- 11. Half-day excursion to surroundings of Brno with distinguishing of Landscape types, types of ecosystems and their use.
- Part of the seminars will be used for consultation of students terrain mapping. Next part will be dedicated to an excursion to landscape in City Brno surroundings.

- Teaching methods
- Lectures are held with help of powerpoint presentations with many picture illustrations. Part of the class exercises is replaced by terrain excursion - with active cooperation of the students. During the course students elaborate terrain project (mapping of a landscape).
- Assessment methods
- Exam is oral. It must be at least on level "E" anyway. Quality of the terrain project gives cca 20 % of final course mark. Quality of collaboration in excercises gives cca 20 % of the final course mark. To obtain the possiblility to attend the exam, students have to present their notes from the excursion to the seminar tutor.
