Course objectives
Main objectives can be summarized as follows: to broaden student's GIS knowledge on practical aplications in selected geographical disciplines. The subject is focused on physical geography. Main topics are as follows: data sources, spatial data formats, , digital terrain modelling, GIS analysis with vector and raster (grid) data.
Syllabus
  • 1. Sources of spatial data for physical geography 2. Data types and formats, import, data conversion 3. Analog to digital data transfer 4. Basic of GIS, connection of spatial and descriptive atributes, data querring 5. Simple calculations on vector datain GIS, overlay map algebra 6. Digital terrain modelling (DTM) 7. Spatial interpolation in ArcMap, Thiessen polygons 8. DTM derivates, terrain analysis 9. Hillshading, terrain profiles 10. 3D vizualization, data animation (ArcScene) 11. Raster modelling, basics of map algebra 12. Hydrological modelling basics
