Course objectives
At the end of the course student should be able to understand fundamental terms on urban climatology and to recognize main factors controlling urban climate. He/she would be able to define main data sources needed for urban climate description and methods for analysis (special purpose in situ measurements, mobile measurements, remote sensing data). Students would be able to apply several methods for estimation of the Urban Heat Island Intensity. He/she should orient in different approaches to mitigate negative effects of UHI or how to adapt.
Learning outcomes
Completing the course students will be able:
- to identify main factors controlling urban climate
- to apply various methods used for Urban Heat Islansd Intensity estimate
- to understand main features of spatial and temporal variability of climate in urban environment - to understand the concept of urban climate modelling and the concept of local climate zones - to choose appropriate approaches to mitigate negative effects of recent climate change in the urban environment and to design siutable adaptation strategies.

  • 7. Spatio-temporal variability of other meteorological elements in urban areas
