Course objectives
The course deals with contemporary trends in retail in the global and regional scale from the point of view of economic-geographical aspects and in wider multidisciplinary context (sociology, urbanism, logistics etc.). We will discuss particularly the issue of geographical interactions, internationalization and globalization of retail. In form of spatio-temporal analysis students will be acquainted with main principles of spatial arrangement of retail network including modern urban applications. By the end of the course students will be able: - to understand contemporary relevant trends in retail development at different levels of its spatial hierarchical arrangement - to use acquired information for decisive sphere in public administration

  • 1. Historic-geographical aspects of retail development 2. Contemporary terminology, European vs. American system 3. Basic characteristics of contemporary retail 4. Concentration and integration of retail, case study of selected global players 5. Spatial development and regulation of retail activities, legislative framework 7. Conclusion, summary of knowledge
