Course objectives
Lectures cover classical and the most important fields of interest in computer graphics. These are compared with current research results. Students should gain the purview of the key issues and research trends in computer graphics field.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students
- will understand the theoretical concepts of modern computer graphics;
- will be able to judge and evaluate the research and development trends in the field;
- will be able to asses the complexity of computer graphics algorithms;
- will be able to design complex graphics systems in various application areas.
Syllabus
  • Sampling and reconstruction, alias, antialiasing.
  • Global illumination, rendering equation.
  • Textures.
  • Special modelling techniques, local and global deformations.
  • Subdivision surfaces.
  • Surface reconstruction and simplification.
  • Direct rendering of volume data.
  • Space subdivision and searching methods.
  • Real-time rendering techniques.
  • Collision detection.
  • Terrain rendering.
  • Warping, morphing and matting of raster images.
  • Image based rendering.
  • Shadows.
  • All these subjects are explained with both mathematical description as well as its algorithmic counterpart. Students will learn theoretical basis of the above-described concepts, algorithms, and representations.
