Course objectives
The course 'Grammar B' is focused on the development of the students' knowledge of the English grammar at intermediate level. Emphasis is placed on understanding the underlying principles of the language studied and gaining more cofidence using it independently.
Syllabus
  • The course work is based mainly on the grammar and practice book 'English Grammar in Use' by Raymond Murphy. The seminars make use of the material in corresponding units, activities from Grammar I by Renata Povolna and a set of additional exercises from various other sources. The plan is as follows: Week 1: Passive and Causative (U 41-43, 45). Week 2: Modal verbs and their first use (U 26-33, 36). Week 3: Ouestions, question tags (U 48-51). Week 4: TEST, Word order (U 108-109). Week 5: Countability (U 68-70). Week 6: Articles 1 (U71 - 75). Week 7: Articles 2 (U 76-78) + Possessive (U 80). Week 8: TEST, Pronouns (U 81-86, 90). Week 9: Adjectives (U104 - 107). Week 10: Adverbs (U 99-101). Week 11: Prepositions (U 120 - 135). Week 12: TEST, Conjunctions (U 112-119). Week 13 - Review and summary.
