Course objectives
The course 'Grammar B' focuses on the development of students' knowledge of the English grammar at intermediate level. The main emphasis is placed on understanding the underlying principles of the English language and gaining more confidence to use it independently.
Syllabus
  • The course work is mainly based on the grammar and practice book 'English Grammar in Use' by Raymond Murphy. The seminars make use of the material in corresponding units, activities from Grammar I by Renata Povolna and a set of additional exercises from various other sources. The plan is as follows: Week 1 and 2: "Articles and Nouns" - Units 68 - 80 Week 3 and 4: "Pronouns and Determiners" - Units 81 - 90 Week 5 and 6: "Relative Clauses" - Units 91 - 96 Week 7: "Adjectives and Adverbs" - Units 97 - 103 Week 8: "Adjectives and Adverbs" - Units 104 - 111 Week 9: "Conjunctions and Prepositions" - Units 112 - 119 Week 10: "Prepositions" - Units 120 - 127 Week 11 and 12: "Prepositions" - Units 128 - 136 Week 13: Revision

Assessment methods (in Czech)
Type of classes: regular contact lessons every week Requirements: active participation in classes, all assigned homework - oral and written, three progress tests during the term (the results will be averaged out, and the overall pass mark has to be at least 70%). Having met all the above requirements, students can then take the final credit test covering the content of the whole semester (pass mark 70%).
