Course objectives (in Czech)
Students will develop all four skills, reading, listening, speaking and writing, for better communication. As they are expected to be on the upper-intermediate level, they will work on extending the range and accuracy of the language as well as the register. They will learn to analyze the language for teaching purposes and will be aware of the fact that they have changed their roles - from being the users of the language into being the source of information about the language and language model providers. At the end of the course (i.e. after 3 semesters of the Practical Language course) they are expected to achieve CAE level (according to the Common European Framework of Reference it is C1 level).
Syllabus (in Czech)
  • The students will cover U1-5 from the book Inside Out Upper Intermediate (see Literature below).

Assessment methods (in Czech)
Since this is a practical course, attendance is required. Anyone missing more than 3 classes without permission BEFORE the missed classes will not pass the course.
The general pass mark for this course is 70%.
In order to qualify to sit for the credit test at the end of the semester, students must pass the continuous assessment of their work during the semester. The continuous assessment will be different for each teacher. Students must pass the continuous assessment in both seminar groups. If students reach the pass mark in the continuous assessment, they will then sit the credit test.
The credit test will consist of evaluation of the students grammar and vocabulary based on the course book as well as general reading and listening sections.
