Course objectives
Students will develop all four skills, reading, listening, speaking and writing, for better communication. As they are expected to be on the upper-intermediate level, they will work on extending the range and accuracy of the language as well as the register. At the end of the course (i.e. after 3 semesters of the Practical Language course) they are expected to achieve CAE level (according to the Common European Framework of Reference it is C1 level).
Syllabus
  • The students will cover U1-4 from the book New English File Upper Intermediate. Other additional materials will be used to support and further develop the topics and content of the corresponding units.

Teaching methods
Students will take part in pair-work, group-work, class discussions and online forums and will be expected to give a presentation and write an assignment.Students will do independent work outside of class using e-learning and reading.
Assessment methods
Attendance is important but it is not required. If you miss a class you have to do all the work assigned on your own. The contunious assessment will consist of unit tests, one progress test and forum participation. (Recommended is one original entry and one response for each topic.) Students must also hand in one writing assignment and give one in-class oral presentation. Students must acquire a minimum of 70 percent from the final credit test. There will also be a final speaking test where students will present their portfolios and address a given topic. The speaking and the portfolios will be evaluated as a pass/fail. The credit test will consist of evaluation of the students grammar and vocabulary based on the course book as well as general reading and listening sections.
